First Edition thus, with frontispieces and 48 plates; oatmeal holland, green backs elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt – decoration on spine is intact. Green tops, brown endpapers, minimal shelf wear, no fading or foxing on pages and the binding is fully intact.

With its experimental form and literary playfulness, Don Quixote generally has been recognised as the first modern novel. The book has had enormous influence on a host of writers from Dickens and Flaubert to Melville and Faulkner who reread it once a year, "just as some people read the Bible."
